Cameron was suffering from a "tight hamstring," according to StokeCityFC.com, and he was left out of the matchday roster against the Citizens altogether. Stoke wound up being eliminated from the FA Cup with a 1-0 loss, with Pablo Zabaleta's 85th-minute goal deciding the outcome, and manager Tony Pulis says that Cameron's absence was due to his muscle issue. Cameron has been one of Pulis' most reliable players, making 24 appearances (23 starts) in all competitions so far this season, his first in the Premier League.
“I thought it was a good time to give Geoff a rest on Saturday," Pulis told Stoke's website. "He’s been complaining about one or two muscle problems, which is probably down to the fact that he isn’t used to the amount of games he’s played over the last 12 months.”
Stoke could use Cameron as it faces Wigan Athletic in its return to league play. The club is looking to break its four-game winless streak, which includes three straight losses, and the slump has seen Stoke fall to 10th place. Cameron, meanwhile, is aiming to be fully fit for the U.S. men's national team's match against Honduras that is slated for Feb. 6, as the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying hexagonal commences.
