Jozy Altidore scored a crucial goal on Tuesday as AZ progressed in the Dutch Cup, while Oguchi Onyewu bagged a late header in the Copa del Rey.
AZ Alkmaar defeated FC Dordrecht 4-2 in the KNVB Beker on Tuesday, moving on to the quarterfinals in the process. Jozy Altidore netted the second goal of the match when he beat two defenders before slotting home with his left foot. The goal was his 15th in all competitions.

The club was blanked on Friday night, losing 3-0 at home against FC Twente. Altidore started and played the entire contest but failed to get on the score sheet.

Everton grabs three points late

Tim Howard stopped just one shot as Everton dominated possession against West Ham United on Saturday. The Toffees won the match 2-1 after a crucial red card for Carlton Cole opened the game up. Steven Pienaar took advantage in the 73rd minute, notching the winner.

Dempsey on the mend

Clint Dempsey was not included in Tottenham’s lineup on Saturday due to a groin injury. The versatile midfielder picked up the injury, which isn’t too serious, and was kept out of the side as a precautionary measure. Brad Friedel was once again the backup keeper as Spurs drew with Stoke 0-0.

Bradley continues solid play as Roma wins

Michael Bradley started on Saturday and played a very efficient game as Roma jumped out to a dominant 4-0 lead over AC Milan, ultimately prevailing 4-2. Although the midfielder did not record an assist, he was very much a part of the attack and has certainly found a groove with his new club.

Cameron solid in draw

Geoff Cameron started on Saturday and played very well as Stoke kept Tottenham quiet in a 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane. Stoke, a very defensive-minded squad, did well to curb the Spurs attack. The club remains in the middle of the table thanks in large part to a league-high 10 draws.

Villa duo rocked by Chelsea

Eric Lichaj and Brad Guzan started on Sunday and although Guzan made seven saves, he also allowed eight goals as Chelsea dominated en route to an 8-0 victory. The London giant got started early and was up 3-0 by the half. Guzan managed to stop a penalty kick from Lucas Piazon in the 89th minute but was noticeably frustrated when Ramires tallied the eighth and final goal in stoppage time.

Jones picks up loss and card in cup play

Schalke midfielder Jermaine Jones played the full 90 minutes on Tuesday and picked up a yellow card as the club fell 2-1 to Mainz in the last 16 of the DFB Pokal. Jones was suspended last week and cannot compete in Bundesliga action until February, but was able to get involved in cup play.

Onyewu scores huge goal

Oguchi Onyewu scored an equalizer in stoppage time on Tuesday, giving Malaga a 1-1 draw against SD Eibar in the first leg of a Copa del Rey round of 16 tie. The defender’s strike was a crucial one as it came on the road. Malaga will host the return leg on Jan. 8. Onyewu dressed but did not play on Saturday as Malaga defeated Real Madrid 3-2.

Kljestan plays well in win

Anderlecht’s Sacha Kljestan started and played the entire contest as his squad defeated Genk 4-2 on Sunday.

Parkhurst Germany bound

U.S. national team defender Michael Parkhurst signed with German Bundesliga side FC Augsburg on a free transfer last week. Parkhurst spent the last four seasons with Danish club Nordsjaelland and will try to help Augsburg climb out of the relegation zone, as it currently sits in 17th place.
