thumbnail Hello,

The former New York Red Bulls man led the way with a first half double in a win over PED Zwolle

U.S. national team striker Jozy Altidore secured a vital three points for under-performing AZ Alkmaar on Saturday, scoring two goals in the first half to secure the win for the cheese farmers away to relegation candidate Zwolle.

Finding the net in the second and 33rd minutes, Altidore put AZ beyond the reach of Zwolle, which pegged one back in the second half through on-loan Danni Avdic in the 57th. Any hopes of a comeback from the home side were extinguished by Joey Van den Berg's red card 20 minutes later.

The pair gives Altidore, AZ's top scorer, 11 league goals on the season, putting the 23-year-old well on his way to eclipsing last season's haul of 15.

AZ, which finished fourth last season, currently sits 12th in the 18-team Eredivise table, 19 points back of leader PSV Eindhoven.
