Oguchi Onyewu scores in first start for Malaga

The American center back picked up his first goal for the club in his first start, as his side won its Copa Del Rey tie against CP Cacereno.
U.S. national team defender Oguchi Onyewu scored his first goal for Malaga in his first start for the La Liga side, netting the opening tally in his team's 4-3 Copa Del Rey victory over CP Cacereno.

The 30-year-old World Cup veteran found the net in the second minute, and despite the lower division side coming back to equalize at 2-2 and grabbing a late goal to threaten, Malaga had enough to reassert itself and see the game out, with Paraguay striker Roque Santa Cruz leading the way with a brace.

Onyewu, who joined Malaga on loan from Sporting CP on transfer deadline day, made his debut in the Spanish club's 1-0 UEFA Champions League victory over his former club, AC Milan, on Oct. 24, coming on as a late substitute.
