thumbnail Hello,

The EPL, SPL and Serie A will come to an end this weekend, leaving room for some season-capping thoughts about the players on our list.

It's been a long season in Europe for many of the players on our list, and this weekend marks the end of it for the American players in the EPL, SPL and Serie A.

With the season closing, we'll run through the list and give a quick overview of what this season did for each player.

1. Clint Dempsey
Age: 29

Club: Fulham
Position: Midfielder

Last Week: 1

Comment:
Dempsey spent his year setting records at Fulham and for American players in Europe. Simply put, no matter how his final match against Tottenham goes, he's had the best scoring season any American player has ever had in a major European league. What the summer holds for him seems to still be very much up in the air, but the bar has been set for every American that follows him to Europe in years to come.
2. Jozy Altidore

Age: 22

Club: AZ
Position: Forward

Last Week: 2

Comments:
Altidore has his coming out party in Europe over the course of this season with AZ. His goal total exceeded all expectations. For a forward that's all that really matters. His confidence should be running high heading into the summer, and that's a great thing for the USA. More importantly, Altidore has proven that he can be a force in a solid European league. Now he just has to prove that he can do it again.
3. Tim Howard
Age: 33

Club: Everton
Position: Goalkeeper

Last Week: 3

Comments:
Everton's run in the second half of the season to help the club finish comfortably in the top half of the table was fun to watch, but it probably wouldn't have happened if Howard hadn't kept the club in so many matches early in the year when the goals weren't coming. He's rightly still the USA's top option in goal and hasn't shown any signs of slowing down.
4. Michael Bradley
Age: 24

Club: Chievo
Position: Midfielder

Last Week: 4

Comments:
When Bradley moved to Serie A there were plenty of questions as to what it would mean for him. What it turned out to be was a perfect fit for his game. It would have been nice to see more goals out of a guy who has the ability to get forward, but he showed overall quality throughout the year. Bradley has now proven himself in three good European leagues, and will probably on the transfer radar of some bigger clubs over the summer.
5. Brad Friedel
Age: 40

Club: Tottenham
Position: Goalkeeper

Last Week: 5

Comments:
Friedel has been as steady as ever. His club has not. What seemed like a sure-fire trip to the Champions League is now completely up in the air as the final matchday approaches.
6. Landon Donovan
Age: 30

Club: LA Galaxy
Position: Midfielder

Last Week: 6

Comment:
First, it's worth mentioning again that Donovan was a part of Everton's turnaround at the start of 2012. It's also worth mentioning that he hasn't really produced at the same level in MLS this season. It's always hard to judge exactly what's going on with Donovan, but when he's switched on he's a force. Hopefully for the USA he'll be in good form once he's wearing the national team colors again.
7.  Herculez Gomez

Age: 29

Club: Santos
Position: Forward

Last Week: 7

Comments:
Gomez still has some time to add to his stats as his club faces off with Tigres in the semifinals of the Mexican Clausura 2012 playoffs.
8. Fabian Johnson
Age: 24

Club: Hoffenheim
Position: Midfielder/Defender

Last Week:
  8

Comments:
Johnson's season with Hoffenheim was not spectacular, but it gave plenty of glimpses of what he has to offer as a player. His versatility and composure make him a solid fixture for the club and should keep him in the U.S. national team for years to come.
9. Maurice Edu
Age: 26

Club: Rangers
Position: Midfielder

Last Week:
9

Comments:
Edu and Rangers had a strange season. A massive point deduction took away any chance of a title, and the club's financial problems could ruin one of the great traditional rivalries in the game. Through all of that, Edu posted another solid season in the center of the park for the club. It would be beneficial for everybody if he could move to greener pastures this summer.
10. Jose Torres
Age: 24

Club: Pachuca
Position: Midfielder

Last Week: 10

Comments:
Torres came into the season off an injury but never missed a beat. Don't be shocked to see him resume his playmaking role for Jurgen Klinsmann this summer.
