American Player Rankings: Altidore keeps climbing

Jozy Altidore's latest goal was an absolute stunner, and was enough to help the big forward continue his climb up the list.

Jozy Altidore's latest goal (which you can see in the video above) was an absolute rocket and was arguably his best of the year.

It brought back memories of his goal in the Gold Cup against Guadeloupe, and was just another bit of proof that the 22-year-old's confidence is running high.

That's great news for Jurgen Klinsmann and and a USA side that is in desperate need of striker for its talented crop of midfielders to play off of.

On his current form Altidore is the second best field player the U.S. has to offer, and the rankings this week will reflect that.

Let's get to it.

1. Clint Dempsey

Age: 29 Club: Fulham Position: Midfielder Last Week: 1 Comment: Fulham having a bye week may be the only thing that can stop Dempsey from scoring with the way he's been playing.

2. Tim Howard

Age: 33 Club: Everton Position: Goalkeeper Last Week: 2 Comments: A late loss to Liverpool the FA Cup semifinals is not something that should go against Howard.

3. Jozy Altidore

Age: 22 Club: AZ Position: Forward Last Week: 5 Comments: Just watch the highlights and enjoy. Altidore is on the best form of his career, and it's not just the goals. His entire game is starting to match his unquestioned physical ability.

4. Michael Bradley

Age: 24 Club: Chievo Position: Midfielder Last Week: 3 Comments: Chievo didn't look completely overmatched against Milan, but the club still came up short.

5. Brad Friedel

Age: 40 Club: AZ Position: Goalkeeper Last Week: 4 Comments: Friedel was not in the net as Chelsea pasted Spurs in the FA Cup, but his team's recent form is not helping his case on this list.

6. Landon Donovan

Age: 30 Club: LA Galaxy Position: Midfielder Last Week: 6 Comment: Somebody welcome Donovan and the Galaxy into the new MLS season. The club, and the player, finally put together a strong showing. That it was against Portland makes it slightly less impressive.

7.  Herculez Gomez

Age: 29 Club: Santos Position: Forward Last Week: 7 Comments: It would be interesting to see how many goals Gomez could score if he was a healthy starter at Santos for an entire season.

8. Fabian Johnson

Age: 24 Club: Hoffenheim Position: Midfielder/Defender Last Week:  8 Comments: Johnson and Hoffenheim could still make a run at a Europa League spot next season but it's an outside chance at best.

9. Maurice Edu

Age: 25 Club: Rangers Position: Midfielder Last Week: 9 Comments: Edu and Rangers had the week off.

10. Carlos Bocanegra

Age: 32 Club: Rangers Position: Defender Last Week: 10 Comments: The same goes for Bocanegra.
