A 41-year-old man will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday after an investigation into allegations the duo were racially abused on the social networking site

Strathclyde Police have arrested and charged a man after Rangers stars Maurice Edu and Kyle Bartley were allegedly subjected to racist comments on Twitter.

A 41-year-old man will appear before Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday to answer charges of directing racist comments towards the duo on the social networking site.

Both players took to Twitter to condemn the abuse they had received, with Bartley, currently on-loan from Arsenal, writing, "Disappointing that in 2012 things like this are still happening. Hopefully the police will take action. Thank you all for the support."

Meanwhile, replying to a message from United States international teammate Jozy Altidore, Edu added, "Sad day when that's what people are tweeting." .
