A scan will take place later this week, and the BBC is reporting that Findley could be out for up to 12 weeks.
The injury comes just days after Findley formally completed his move to Forest from MLS, and before he made his debut for the Championship side.
Findley moved to England after four seasons in MLS with Real Salt Lake. Findley has been capped 11 times by the USA, appearing in three of its four World Cup matches in South Africa this summer.
