Down South, Jornada 9: Gomez Scores Again
Herculez Gomez has been a revelation for Puebla as he scored his fifth goal of the season.
Here's a look at how the Americans in Mexico did during Jornada 9 games on the weekend.
Jose Francisco Torres: Played 90 minutes in Pachuca's 3-0 loss at Monterrey. Torres wasn't much of a factor for los Tuzos against Monterrey on the weekend, but then again nobody on his team was. Pachuca have now gone for consecutive matches without a victory and the playoffs might be out of reach for Torres and Pachuca soon enough, if the club cannot straighten out their issues.
Edgar Castillo: Played 90 minutes in Tigres' 1-0 win at Indios. Castillo picked up a yellow card on the quarter-hour mark of the match. Castillo's defensive play was improved from recent weeks but Tigres played the worst offense in the league as Indios have struggled on the attack all season long.
Herculez Gomez: Played 90 minutes in Puebla's 4-1 loss at Pumas. Gomez scored Puebla's only goal of the game, a fourth-minute strike that gave Puebla early hope of a victory at Pumas. Gomez shook off his mark inside the box and knocked a header on goal that Pumas' Sergio Bernal was unable to contain. Gomez, who dyed part of his hair blue for the game, has now scored in four consecutive games.
Marco Antonio Vidal: Played 90 minutes in Indios' 1-0 loss to Tigres. Another quiet performance for Vidal, who helped Indios keep Tigres to just one goal. Tigres went down a man in the first half yet still managed to score a goal and keep Indios' poor attack from scoring.
Sammy Ochoa: Did not dress for Estudiantes' 2-0 loss at Morelia.
Liga de Ascenso
Sonny Guadarrama: Did not dress for Merida's 2-1 loss at Dorados.
