USA Defender Jay DeMerit Returns To Game Action
A second half appearance for Jay DeMerit ended a three month layoff for the U.S. national team defender.
American defender Jay DeMerit has returned from a three-month layoff to play for Watford in a 3-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers in the League Championship, England's second division.
DeMerit came on at halftime, when the clubs were tied at 1-1. Watford scored twice in the second half to seal up the win.
The 30-year-old from Green Bay, Wisconsin had not played since Aug. 29. He had been sidelined by an eye infection to his cornea caused when dust or grit became stuck under a contact lens. After surgery on October 17 to replace the cornea, DeMerit had to spend more time in recuperation.
With another first-choice defender, Oguchi Onyewu, out of action due to a ruptured patellar tendon in his knee, the return of DeMerit is a welcome one for the USA national team.
