thumbnail Hello,

Rangers defeat further marred by claims of racism.

For Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu, the humiliating 4-1 defeat inflicted by last night's Champions League opponents Urinea Urziceni would have paled in comparison to the reported racial abuse he received – by his own fans.

The promising young USA international revealed on his Twitter profile on Wednesday morning that he was racially abused as he got into his car after the match.

He said: "Not sure what hurt more: result last nite or being racially abused by couple of r own fans as I'm getting in my car...smh...off to rehab."

[Note: smh means 'shaking my head.]

The 23-year-old has been plagued by a knee injury this season, prompting a lengthy spell in rehabilitation.

Previously Edu complained, via a Twitter message later deleted, that he had suffered racist abuse online.

Rangers have yet to comment publicly on the incident.

The first overall pick in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft by Toronto FC, Edu spent a season in Canada before making the move to Rangers in a £2.6 million deal. He's also made 11 appearances for the U.S. National Team.
