Sochaux Coach Francis Gillot: Any Result Against Lyon Will Be For Charlie Davies
Les Lionceaux come up against the league leaders tonight and anything they get from the game will be dedicated to their hospitalized hitman.
Sochaux head coach Francis Gillot has urged his side to channel their energies into beating Olympique Lyonnais on Saturday evening, despite the problems currently being suffered by striker Charlie Davies.
The American international forward was involved in a fatal car crash earlier this week and had a relatively lucky escape, although his injuries are horrendous and he faces a long spell on the sidelines. Gillot believes that his players must focus on the forthcoming challenge and not think about the current tribulations of the young forward, who has quickly emerged as a cult hero in the east of France.
“The problem is that Charlie is away, we cannot see him talk or call him,” he told the club’s official website.
“We all took a blow on the head upon hearing the news, but life continues and we need points. He is 10,000 kilometres away and we must think of the match in Lyon. We will do everything possible, even if it's complicated. If we can do something in Lyon, it will be for him.”
Les Lionceaux have made a slightly below par start to their league campaign, picking up only nine points from their opening eight matches. With a difficult injury situation going into the weekend’s trip to OL, it would be quite a coup if they could even claim a point against the Ligue 1 leaders.
