thumbnail Hello,

The Andalusian club nearly brought in the young American, but instead he remains in Portugal, on loan from Benfica to Belenenses.

Freddy Adu nearly wound up in Spain during the last transfer window, according to reports from that country.

As reported in AndaluciaInformacion.es, Cadiz, a club based in the city of the same name and currently in the Spanish second division, were searching for a midfielder up until the close of the window. They were trying to come to terms on a transfer deal with a unknown player, with Julio Peguero, the sporting director, only identifying him as an "international player".

Adu has been capped for the US national team a few times, appearing most recently with the team during the early part of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Apparently, Cadiz and Benfica were very close to an agreement on Adu, but "complications" arose over terms and Adu eventually ended up on loan to another team in Portugal, Belenenses.

Adu saw his first minutes of game action for Belenenses today.

The report from Spain, however, explained that Cadiz could still be interested in securing Adu's services in the near future.
