Agent: Oguchi Onyewu's Reported Move To Birmingham False
Oguchi Onyewu is in talks with Birmingham City, but no deal has been struck yet, says his agent, Lyle Yorks.
Several news sources, including the Daily Mail, reported that Oguchi Onyewu had agreed to a three year deal with Birmingham City. However, those assertions are incorrect according to Onyewu's agent, Lyle Yorks.
Yorks did reveal that the 6'5 central defender is discussing a move to the Premier League club, but that no deal has been finished yet.
"This is not true," Yorks told Goal.com. "We are only in discussions at this point."
Onyewu is currently with the U.S. national team. He helped anchor the defense as the Red, White & Blue beat Honduras 2-1 Saturday in World Cup qualifying. Next, Gooch will travel to South Africa with the national team to participate in the Confederations Cup.
After winning a second consecutive Jupiler League title in Belgium with Standard Liege, Onyewu's contract will expire this summer, and the defender is looking for a new club.
