The latest teams on the trail of Onyewu seem to hail from England according to skysports.com.
Previously linked with teams across Europe, particularly in Spain and France, it is believed that Onyewu would prefer a move back to England. In 2007 he spent time on loan at Newcastle and made 11 appearances for the Premier League club.
According to skysports.com, the towering center back has attracted the interest of newly-promoted Birmingham and Wolves, both of whom are looking to straighten their defenses ahead of their return to England’s top flight. Clint Dempsey’s Fulham also are believed to be interested.
His contract with Belgian club Standard Liege is up this summer and he is free to move to any club. He has stated recently that he’s ready for a new challenge and a stay in Belgian seems very unlikely.
Since joining Liege in 2004, Onyewu has made 174 appearances for the Belgian club, scoring 13 goals in the process. He’s also a stalwart in the U.S. Men’s National Team having appeared 40 times, netting on five occasions.
