Now that his loan deal with Bayern Munich is official, US International forward Landon Donovan sat down with his new club’s website and spoke about his time so far in Germany.

“I”m happy and excited at the same time to be with Bayern,” said Donovan of how he’s feeling at the moment. “My goal now is to be a part of the team as quickly as possible. Being here since November it has made it easier for me, and especially since I was received with open arms.”

Donovan’s loan is for roughly three months, starting with the opening of the January transfer windown and ending on March 15, just in time for the start of the LA Galaxy’s 2009 season.

The soccer lifestyle in Germany is something Donovan truly appreciates and is one of the main reasons he decided to join the Bundesliga giants.

“The people in Germany have a much greater passion for football, they have football in their blood,” said Donovan of his new fans. “In the Bundesliga, there are many more one-on-one duels, the players are technically adept and can handle the ball very cleverly. The MLS is different in that the league is more physical and faster.”

One of the main reasons Donovan is with Bayern at all is because of their manager Juergen Klinsmann, who has strong ties to the Los Angeles area.

“Juergen has supported me a lot,” said Donovan of the German boss. “It was fortunate for me that he had lived in Los Angeles and got to see me play. He knows my qualities. I know being here isn’t a gift, I have lots of hard work to do, but I’m looking forward to it.”

In his professional career Donovan has played with three teams, Bayer Leverkusen, where he only made seven appearances. He was then loaned to the San Jose Earthquakes where he made 87 appearances and then later signed for the Galaxy where he has played the bulk of his career, appearing 96 times. He’s also a veteran of the US Senior squad having won 105 caps.
