Donovan's Bayern Loan Length Released
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge claims that the loan deal for the Los Angeles Galaxy's Landon Donovan is currently set to end before the start of the 2009 MLS Season.
The official length of Landon Donovan’s loan deal has
been released. Bayern Munich Chief Executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says
the deal will end before the 2009 MLS season begins.
Speaking in an interview with Bayern Magazine, Rummenigge claimed that the Donovan will be the only addition to “a very confirmed, harmonious team.” The American attacker will join the team officially in the January transfer window, perhaps as early as the 1st. The loan will end on March 15, 2009.
That means, should a permanent deal not materialize, Donovan could be available for the LA Galaxy’s first game of the 2009 MLS season. D.C. United will be visiting the Home Depot Center on March 22, a game that will be broadcast on TeleFutura.
If the US international can earn a permanent deal with Jurgen Klinsmann’s squad, that will become irrelevant.
Rummenigge also scratched rumors that the Bavarian giants could make a January move for Anatoly Timoschtschuk. The St. Petersburg captain had been linked with Munich, but according to Rummenigge, no deal will happen mid-season.
On players already with Munich, Rummenigge rejected claims that any could be moving away. An unhappy Lukas Podolski has been linked back to Koln or to mega-rich Manchester City, but no deal can happen until the summer when Bayern will have time to find a replacement, claims Rummenigge.
Frank Ribery, on the other hand, is “unsellable.” Even the Frenchman has claimed he will stay until his contract ends in 2011, and Bayern are unlikely to let their star player go without a fierce quarrel.
Remmenigge went on to explain that Bayern’s management team would be taking time in the winter break to hammer out contract extensions for Mark van Bommel, Zé Roberto, and Bastian Schweinsteiger. All three could leave on a free in the summer as their current deals will have run out. Some rumors link Zé Roberto with a move to MLS if he cannot agree a deal in Germany.
