Oguchi Onyewu and Standard Liege kept pressure on Club Brugge atop the Belgian Jupiler League table with a rather comfortable win over Royal Excelsior Mouscron at home. Onyewu put in another solid performance, hoping to further impress suitors such as Paris St. Germain and Marseille who are rumored to be interested in securing his services. The match was fairly straightforward with an Igor De Camargo brace in the first 57 minutes easing the home crowd’s nerves. Mouscron midfielder Mustapha Ousalla struck in the 61st minute to pull his side back into contention, but Milan Jovanovic put the match out of reach 12 minutes later to secure the victory for Liege. The win leaves Liege only one point off Club Brugge and takes their unbeaten streak to four games in all competitions. Next up, Onyewu and Liege will attempt to continue their good run of form as their travel to Serbia to face Partizan Belgrade in the UEFA Cup.

Michael Bradley, Borussia Monchengladbach (Germany)
Away to Schalke 04, 1-3, 90 minutes
Michael Bradley was unable to keep Monchengladbach from slumping to a 3-1 defeat away to Schalke. All goals were scored in the first half, with Turkish international Halil Altintop’s first-half double and Jefferson Farfan’s penalty assuring the win for the home side. After Altintop’s 17th minute strike was closely followed by Farfan’s penalty in the 23rd, Rob Friend was able to pull a goal back for the visitors in the 30th minute. In the 45th minute, Altintop secured the win for Schalke, rounding M’Gladbach ‘keeper Gospodarek and slotting home after latching onto an Orlando Engelaar through ball. Next up: Energie Cottbus, Saturday, November 29

Neven Subotic, Borussia Dortmund (Germany)
Away to Karlsruhe, 1-0, 90 minutes
Neven Subotic nearly continued his goalscoring form against Karlsruhe, heading wide from a corner just before halftime. Mohamed Zidan’s 20th minute goal following a Tamas Hajnal pass ensured that Dortmund took home all three points, and put them only four points off league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. Next up: vs. VFL Wolfsburg, Sunday, November 30

Steve Cherundolo, Hannover 96 (Germany)
Away to Eintracht Frankfurt, 0-4, 90 minutes
Steve Cherundolo and Hannover were run off the pitch against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, enduring a torrid time against their fellow league strugglers. The game was even in the early going, with both sides creating chances. In the 25th minute, Nikos Liberopoulos rose to head home a Markus Steinhofer corner. Hannover responded with an off-target Christian Schulz shot, but Frankfurt looked increasingly dangerous as they approached halftime. Just before the break, another header flew past Hannover ‘keeper Florian Fromlowitz, and the half ended 2-0 in favor of Eintracht. Hannover responded positively in the beginning of the 2nd half, but was unable to capitalize. As the game wore on, Eintracht slowly regained control, and was able to score two goals in the last 4 minutes courtesy of Liberopoulos and Martin Fenin. Next up: vs. Karlsruhe, Saturday, November 29

Carlos Bocanegra, Rennes (France)
Away to Bordeaux, 1-1, 90 minutes
Bocanegra and Rennes battled to a 1-1 draw with Bordeaux in a relatively uneventful game. After opening the score in the 20th minute through an Olivier Thomert strike, Rennes was unable to capitalize on a few other clear-cut chances. In the 60th minute, there was a misunderstanding between defender Kader Mangane and goalkeeper Nicolas Douchez, allowing Yoann Gourcuff to ghost in and score the equalizer. Next up: Away to PSG, Sunday, November 30

Square Passes

Freddy Adu wasn’t able to do much but get his boots grassy as he stepped onto the pitch for Monaco in the 90th minute of their 3-0 win over Le Mans.

Landon Donovan has secured his dream move, signing a loan deal for Jurgen Klinsmann’s Bayern Munich side. Despite the strong competition for striking places, Donovan will hope to battle his way into contention with the likes of Luca Toni, Miroslav Klose, and the want-away Lukas Podolski.
