Szetela's Brescia Loan Extended Another Season

Spanish club Racing Santander has prolonged their U.S. international Danny Szetela's stay in Italy.

Spanish Liga side Racing Santander has extended young American midfielder Danny Szetela's loan to Serie B club Brescia for another season. Although the original contract gave Brescia the right to buy Szetela at the end of the loan term, it appears that they chose only to extend the loan. The 21-year-old U.S. international will stay in Italy until June 30, 2009.

One of the stars of the U.S. team at last summer 's U20 World Cup, Szetela joined Racing just at the end of last summer's transfer window after turning down reported offers from EPL club Newcastle and Serie A side Roma. But once in Spain, he struggled to find a place in the side and ended up making only one appearance with the Racinguistas.

In January of this year, he was loaned to Brescia, who had shown some initial interest in him in the summer, and he made 10 league appearances.

Before going to Europe, the New Jersey-native spent three and a half seasons with MLS's Columbus Crew, where he made 36 appearances with no goals.
