CONCACAF Player of the Week: Marco Fabian

The midfielder, who joined Cruz Azul on loan from this winter, kept La Maquina chugging with a standout performance against Atlante.

Atlante 1-4 Cruz Azul

Good starts haven't been a Marco Fabian hallmark lately. The gold-medal winning midfielder got off to a rocky start after his loan away from Chivas, being sent off in his second match with the club after collecting a pair of yellows and having a visit to a Mexico City bar show up in the press (with no evidence of any illegal or immoral behavior). So it was that much nicer when Fabian put Cruz Azul up a goal less than 50 seconds into its match against Atlante on Sunday.

Fabian added another goal in a performance that will have the rest of Liga MX fretting that the 24-year-old is discovering the form he was in during the 2010-11 campaign when he scored 15 goals for Chivas. With three goals this tournament, Fabian already has matched his total from the previous tournament.

If fans of other teams in the league are fretting about a Fabian resurgence, they might all be able to get behind a return to El Tri. An in-form Fabian would have a good chance to make Miguel Herrera's final squad. He'll have to keep proving himself, but he appears to be on the right track.

Congratulations to Marco Fabian, Goal's 9th CONCACAF Player of the Week winner!

  The Shortlist

Gio dos Santos - Villarreal

It was tough for any player on the Yellow Submarine to stand out against a Real Madrid team intent on going to the top of La Liga, but dos Santos held his own, scoring a free kick goal in the losing effort.

Keylor Navas - Levante

Costa Rica's No. 1 continues showing his strength in goal, keeping Real Sociedad scoreless. Unfortunately for Navas, his team couldn't come through with any support and the match ended 0-0.

Rony Martinez - Real Sociedad

Martinez is pulling away as the top goalscorer in Honduras, with his hat trick at Parrillas One putting him at eight goals in seven matches for the Liga Nacional leaders. If he keeps putting up numbers like that, he'll soon be trying to do it in even larger leagues.

Isaac Brizuela - Toluca

Another potential El Tri inclusion (he earned adulation for his play in a friendly against South Korea), Brizuela did well to score the Red Devils' first goal in a 2-0 win against Chiapas.
