A pair of goals by Andrew Gordon and additional strikes by Hanson Boakai and Jordan Hamilton paced the Canucks to victory over the Jamaicans, who had twice taken the lead in the first half. Despite the early leads by its opponent, Canada maintained its composure and eventually converted superior possession into the goals needed to ensure the win.
"It is a tremendous feeling and you cannot take these moments for granted," Canadian head coach Sean Fleming told CanadaSoccer.com. "The boys were immense in the second half and to qualify for our second-consecutive FIFA U-17 World Cup is a great achievement for this program."
While the big job of qualification for the World Cup - to be held in the United Arab Emirates in October - was wrapped up, Fleming's squad still has a confederation title in its sights. The Canadians will face host Panama on Wednesday in the tournament semifinal, with the winner advancing to the final two days later.
