thumbnail Hello,

The Vancouver Whitecaps added Honduran international defender Johnny Leveron on Tuesday. The 23-year-old joins from Club Deportivo Motagua, where he has played since 2009.

It’s been rumoured for a while, but now it’s official: the Vancouver Whitecaps have signed Honduran international Johnny Leveron.

The left footed centre back has 20 caps for the Hondurans and captained his country at the 2012 London Olympics.

The 23-year-old has plenty of professional experience for his age, having played 83 matches in Honduras’ Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional for Club Deportivo Motagua, scoring nine goals.

“Johnny is a left-footed centre back who is very comfortable on the ball,” said Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie in a club statement . “He’s still young but he’s captained the Honduran Olympic team and has already played a number of games for the senior national team. He has a very big upside and we are really excited to welcome him to Vancouver.”

In addition to his natural position of centre back, Leveron can also play at left fullback and as a defensive midfielder.
