With Olivier Occean suspended for Canada's massive World Cup qualifier at Honduras on Tuesday, 19-year-old striker Lucas Cavallini has been summoned by coach Stephen Hart. It's turning out to be a pretty decent weekend for Lucas Cavallini.
The 19-year-old striker scored a 24th minute goal for Juventud de las Piedras in a 1-1 draw with Fenix in Uruguay's Primera Division on Saturday before hopping on a plane to join Canada's national team ahead of its biggest game in over a decade.
Cavallini was called in by Canadian national team head coach Stephen Hart as an emergency replacement for veteran target man Olivier Occean, who was shown red in Canada's 3-0 win over Cuba on Friday night and automatically suspended for the Canucks' must-not-lose match at Honduras on Tuesday.
With Occean out, Cavallini steps in to join the full national side in hopes of earning his second cap. The Mississauga, Ontario native featured in Canada's 2-0 friendly win over Trinidad and Tobago in August, and has represented his country at the under-23 and under-20 levels.
For his club side, he has scored three times in five appearances so far this season. He is currently on loan to Juventud from Uruguayan giant Club Nacional.
