The expansion Whitecaps add depth to their midfield

The Vancouver Whitecaps announced the signing of veteran midfielder Peter Vagenas Wednesday. Per club policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Vagenas, 33, spent the previous two seasons with the Seattle Sounders, who selected him in the 2008 MLS Expansion Draft. He made 21 total appearances with the Sounders in two seasons, including 16 starts. Last season, he started all seven of his Sounders FC appearances. He didn't score a goal with Seattle and had two assists.

"I'm very pleased to join Vancouver Whitecaps FC," said Vagenas. "I've played in this league for a number of years and I've had some great experiences playing with the Galaxy and Sounders FC. I'm excited to start this new challenge in Vancouver."

After being selected in the second round of the 2000 MLS SuperDraft, the 5-foot-8 midfielder spent his first eight seasons with the LA Galaxy, winning MLS Cup titles in 2002 and 2005.
