Instead, Zabaleta's representative, Carlos Marcelo Arguello, has announced that there woujld be no chance that the 23-year-old would view a move to the Sicilian outfit as a step up.
"We are willing to consider only bids from top level clubs, Palermo is a respectable outfit but more or less the same level as Espanyol where, I would like to say, the player is very happy," he explained.
Zabaleta has attracted plenty of interest from other clubs and has also been linked with Valencia, Juventus and Fiorentina, but no actual contact has been made with Espanyol.
The Buenos Aires-born full-back can also play in midfield and has progressed well since joining the Blanc i Blau in 2005 from San Lorenzo.
