The saga over Club America’s Raul Jimenez and his future appears to have taken another twist, with the player confirming on arrival in Monterrey on Friday that a proposal has arrived that could yet force his club’s hand and see him heading to Europe.
“I know there is an offer, nothing more,” said Jimenez on arrival at Monterrey’s airport. “It is an offer from a very important club.”
Jimenez reiterated to reporters that his dream is to play in Europe, but stressed he is focused on today’s (Saturday) game against Tigres.MORE: Biggest summer transfers | Soccer's beautiful fans | WAGs
Mexican sports newspaper Record reported Friday that Jimenez’s exit from America is “imminent” and that the club interested is La Liga’s Valencia.
ESPN reported the same thing, but TV Azteca - quoting “sources close to the negotiations” – put out a story saying Valencia hasn’t made an offer and Jimenez is referring to a separate club.
Porto has been consistently linked with Jimenez all summer, as well as Wolfsburg, but America has made it clear he won’t be leaving unless a European club match its valuation of the player.
