The Manchester United striker will look to score for El Tri for the first time since last summer against the European side.Javier Hernandez will get a chance to stake his claim for a World Cup starting spot against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Tuesday in Chicago, with the Manchester United striker starting his first match for El Tri since the end of the season.
Hernandez – who hasn’t scored for Mexico since the 2013 Confederations Cup – will be accompanied upfront by Club America’s Raul Jimenez, Herrera announced in his pregame press conference on Monday.
In goal, Alfredo Talavera will get his chance. Herrera is still undecided on whether the Toluca player, Jesus Corona or Guillermo Ochoa will be in net for Mexico’s opening World Cup game against Cameroon on June 13.
Miguel Layun will likely feature as the right wingback, with Miguel Ponce getting a chance on the left. Diego Reyes, Carlos Salcido and Hector Moreno will be the three center backs in Herrera’s 5-3-2 system.
Jose Juan “Gallito” Vazquez starts in the holding midfield, with Carlos Pena and Hector Herrera ahead of him.
Herrera added that Rafa Marquez’s injury isn’t as serious as first feared and he could yet be back to face Portugal on Friday.
