Luis Gabriel Rey notched two goals as the Azteca side claimed a blowout win over its rival from Guadalajara
Club America’s dominance of Mexico’s Clasico Nacional continued on Sunday, with the Mexico City club beating Chivas 4-0 in the Estadio Omnilife to extend its winning run in the fixture to three games.
Luis Gabriel Rey scored twice in the first 15 minutes to put Chivas on the back foot right from the beginning, although the Guadalajara team did have its chances.
The Colombian’s first came when he found himself free at the back post from an exquisite pass from Rubens Sambueza.
Rey’s second was a bullet of a shot from outside the penalty area after he latched onto the ball following a defensive slip-up from Chivas.
Mexico international Raul Jimenez netted the third in the 56th minute, after Miguel Layun’s long-range shot was saved and the ball fell loose.
Luis Mendoza wrapped up the scoring in the 74th after he was left free in the center of the penalty area to chip the ball over onrushing ‘keeper Antonio Rodriguez.
Chivas were made to rue missed opportunities in the first half.
America goalkeeper Moises Munoz was forced into a quality save in the 13th from an Aldo de Nigris header, while Jorge Enriquez missed a header in front of an almost open net in the 30th.
The win puts America on 20 points from 13 games this Clausura season, while Chivas dropped out of the playoff spots and sit in ninth position on 17 points.
