On his birthday, the Mexican manager said a pair of Liga MX standouts would likely be on his roster for Mexico's early April friendly against the USA.
Mexico coach Miguel Herrera suggested Tuesday that Cruz Azul duo Marco Fabian and Rogelio Chavez are set to be involved for El Tri against the United States on April 2 in Phoenix.
“I believe Marco (Fabian) will be on the Phoenix list,” Herrera said in an interview on his 46th birthday on ESPN’s Futbol Picante, adding that he doesn’t need the 24-year-old’s golazos last weekend to see his talent.
“I’m looking for consistency,” added Herrera about Fabian. “He’s regaining his form and can demonstrate that he is ready to play and compete against anyone.”
Talking about the right wing back situation, Herrera said Pachuca’s Rodolfo Pizarro - who played against Korea Republic in January - has “a lot of assets, but is very young” and confirmed Chavez will get a shot at the position against the US.
Herrera also highlighted the importance of the game against the United States in determining his final squad of 23 to go to the World Cup, indicating that after the game he hopes to have his list “80 percent” ready.
