The 32-year-old will undergo surgery on his right shoulder next week, with the club releasing a statement indicating the player will be out for about four months.
"We lose a lot, but this isn't a moment to back off, this is a good opportunity for everyone to pull their socks up and give everything for the team," Los Rayados coach Jose Guadalupe "Profe" Cruz is quoted as saying in Record.
The possibility of whether Suazo's foreign spot will be taken will be analyzed, said Cruz, who also urged the club's other main forwards — Marlon de Jesus, Wilson Morelo and Othoniel Arce — to step up.
The news comes as a bitter blow to Monterrey, for whom Suazo has been prolific since joining in 2007, with the club under pressure from fans following a poor Apertura 2013 combined with an underwhelming performance at the Club World Cup.
Los Rayados play Liga MX leader Queretaro at home Saturday looking for their first victory of the season, following draws against Cruz Azul and Puebla.
