“My goal is to establish myself, keep getting better at the things I have to improve and catch the eye of the national team, which is something very important to my career,” Corona told reporters in Monterrey’s international airport on arrival for his Christmas break.
The 20-year-old has featured in just seven Eredivisie games this season for Twente, which sits third but made a debut start in the team’s last match of the year against RKC Waalwijk.
“I’ve not played much, but I ended up playing a little more at the end,” the former Monterrey player said. “I think it is a process that the club is going through with me, and it has been respected.”
Corona is well aware he’ll need more minutes to get into El Tri ahead of Brazil 2014, with plenty of competition for the forward places.
“It is difficult to compete in the national team how it is today,” he said. “Carlos Vela, Chicharito, Oribe Peralta … It is a very mature team that has a set objective. I’ll have to work to be able to earn a call-up.”
Corona is set to return to Holland early in the New Year ahead of the Twente’s first game of 2014 against Heracles on January 17.
