Dos Santos heaps praise on Vela

The Villarreal attacker knows his former international teammate would have plenty to offer El Tri should he decide to return.
While Mexico fans seem to be split on whether they would welcome Carlos Vela back into the national team fold, it doesn’t appear that Giovani Dos Santos would have any problem with it.

In fact, it seems he’d welcome Vela’s return with open arms.

The Villarreal forward described Vela as a “great player” who “would add a lot of things to the national team,” in an interview with Marca published on Monday.

Vela – who scored four goals for Real Sociedad on Saturday - has famously refused to suit up for Mexico since 2011, citing personal reasons as the cause but never really explaining the exact problem with playing for El Tri.

Like many fans and journalists, Dos Santos claims he is also in the dark about Vela’s motives.

“It’s a complicated issue between Vela and the federation,” said Dos Santos. “I don’t know his motives.”

Barcelona youth product Dos Santos also talked about El Tri’s style and explained Mexico should seek to dominate games and look for victories, adding that he hopes “everything changes moving forward” regarding the national team.
