The Mexican forward joined Real Sociedad on loan in the summer of 2011 and signed a four-year deal a year later.Carlos Vela’s form for Real Sociedad may well be garnering the attention of bigger fish, but the Basque club is determined to keep the 24-year-old.
Sociedad sporting director Lorenzo “Loren” Juarros told the Spanish press Wednesday that the club will do everything possible so that leaving “doesn’t even enter his head.”
“He’s said that he’d like to be in Real (Sociedad) playing in Europe,” stated Juarros.
Vela has previously acknowledged that Premier League giant Arsenal has a buy-back clause to repurchase the Cancun native, but Sociedad would be more than reluctant to let such an influential player go.
Juarros was speaking to the press after signing a new two-year deal with the club. He said that Real had become a stable club under his tenure and a place “with a group of players that have been growing on both an individual and collective level.”
Vela has been a major part of Real Sociedad’s rise to fourth position in La Liga this season, with his 12 goals topping the club’s scoring charts and lifting the Basque side to the Champions League places.
The Mexican forward joined Real Sociedad on loan in the summer of 2011 and signed a permanent four-year deal a year later.
His future with the Mexican national team remains unclear and hasn’t played for El Tri since March 2011.
