How Chivas is defeated does not bother America coach Miguel Herrera, the important thing is to win the clasico nacional.
That’s what America managed to do Sunday evening, thanks to two second half goals from Raul Jimenez, after Chivas had gone down to 10 men and had been forced into three substitutions through injuries.
“The triumph tastes the same,” he told press after the game. “What happened to Chivas is not our fault.”
He added: “Whoever wins is the one who leaves with honor. That’s how clasicos are played and now I have started to coach I understand.”
Herrera did admit that Chivas was the better team in the early stages of the game, before Perez’s red card, but was satisfied with how his team got into the game.
“Maybe for the first 25 minutes they were better, but after we took control of the game and did what we had to,” stated Herrera.
The victory in the Estadio Omnilife lifted America into third place in the Liga MX on 24 points, while Chivas is down in 11th on 16 points.
There are five rounds of matches left to play in Mexico’s Clausura season.
