The Mexican has scored 12 times in 26 Liga games for the Basques this season and the former Arsenal man feels that he has proved his detractors wrong.
“I thank God things are going well, and I have silenced many mouths who initially spoke ill of me,” Vela told Futbol de Primera.
“I have always asked for respect to be given to me, I just want to be left to do my job. I do not mess with anyone and I just enjoy playing every weekend.”
The forward also described how the level of freedom afforded to him at San Sebastian helps him to enjoy life at the club.
"I am happy, here [the club] are giving me love and trust and they just let me play as I know I can. They give me my freedom and things are going well with the team.
“There are good vibes in the locker room, we get along very well on and off the field. The truth is that we have a good time. We want to finish the year well and see if we can reach Europe. That is the dream that we have here at Real."
Philippe Montanier’s side is currently fifth in la Liga, level on points with fourth-placed Malaga.
