thumbnail Hello,

The former Mexico manager is confident that El Tri will cruise to qualification for the World Cup in Brazil.

According to former Mexican national team coach Ricardo La Volpe, El Tri should qualify without problems for the 2014 World Cup, despite the hiccup in the opener against Jamaica.

The Argentine also said that Mexico needs to act like more of a power in the region, since its football is superior to the rest of the zone.

“You have to play the games,” the coach said in an interview with ESPN. “But I’ll insist on one thing, we should get bigger.”

La Volpe left the bench at Atlante last month to be operated on for an aneurysm, but has remained in the public eye as always.

The former El Tri coach says that Mexico has the football to cruise through qualification, as long as the players realize what they are up against.

“Mexico needs to understand that it needs to play football, because that’s what will allow you to win," he said in the interview. "If they do it, they’ll win without a doubt, if the players have the confidence to play football, to get through qualifying and on to Brazil to where we all hope they’ll get that famous fifth game [of the World Cup].”

Mexico has passed the group stage of the World Cup in the past five editions of the event, but has failed to advance past the round of 16.
