Aquino predicts short adjustment period with new club Villarreal

Javier Aquino will trade in the Tricolor of Mexico for the yellow of Villarreal, finally heading to Spain after his January transfer.
A day after participating in the World Cup qualifying match against Jamaica at El Azteca, Mexico winger Javier Aquino boarded a plane for Europe to join up with his new club, Villarreal.

Aquino is set to join the Yellow Submarine as the club bids to return to La Liga after suffering a surprising relegation last year.

After his deadline beating transfer, the former Cruz Azul attacker is confident he can help in that effort.

“I’m very excited,” Aquino said. “In Spain, no one gives you anything, in Mexico either. In any league in the world I don’t think anyone gives you anything. And I think for me it will be very easy to adapt because I know what I’m in for.”

Aquino joins fellow Mexican internationals Gio Dos Santos, Andres Guardado and Hector Moreno in Spain, as well as erstwhile El Tri attacker Carlos Vela.

Villarreal currently sits in ninth place in the second division in Spain, three points shy of the promotion playoffs, and six points back of an automatic promotion spot.
