The Real Sociedad forward alleged personal issues in order to decline the invitation for Mexico's Feb. 6 match against Jamaica.

Carlos Vela has once again declined the opportunity to play for Mexico. The 23-year-old, currently enjoying sparkling form at the club level with Real Sociedad, turned down Chepo de la Torre's call up this Thursday, alleging "personal issues".

The Mexican Federation revealed via an official statement that Vela will not be a part of the squad that will take on Jamaica at the Estadio Azteca on Feb. 6, due to the player asking not to be considered for the first round of the World Cup qualifying finals.

"The manager of the senior national team, Jose Manuel de la Torre, as well as national team director Hector Gonzalez Iñarritu, established communication with Carlos Vela, who asked not to be called up due to personal motives," read the statement.

Vela has not played for Mexico since 2011 and declined to be considered for the U-23 side that went on to win gold at the Summer Olympics in London last year. The former Arsenal man has scored 20 goals for Sociedad since joining the club on loan two years ago. He was purchased by the team after netting 12 goals in his first season.

Ajaccio goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa also declined his call up due to the upcoming birth of his first child, set to occur within the next two weeks.
