Several Mexicans featured in Thursday's La Liga fixtures, with Carlos Vela leading the way by scoring against Sevilla.Carlos Vela scored to lead Real Sociedad to a vital victory in Spain, and Javier Aguirres’s Espanyol side climbed out of the relegation zone on a busy day for Mexicans in Spain.
Vela scored the opener for Real Sociedad in a 2-1 win over struggling Sevilla. The Mexican slotted home with his left foot 18 minutes in for the Basque side, which hasn’t lost in seven La Liga outings.
The goal was Vela’s seventh of the season and helped move Real Sociedad into seventh place in the table.
In Barcelona, Espanyol topped Deportivo la Coruña 2-0, giving Mexican coach Javier Aguirre his first win at his new job. The victory also catapulted the club out of the relegation zone and into 16th place in the La Liga table.
Mexican defender Hector Moreno played the full 90 for Espanyol.
