The Monterrey forward wants to prove himself on the highest level after testing his skills against European champion Chelsea.
Monterrey forward Aldo De Nigris says he proved to himself that he’s ready for European competition by holding his own against the European champion on Thursday.
De Nigris and Monterrey fell to Chelsea, 3-1, at the Club World Cup early Thursday morning, but the Mexican national teamer says he showed that he could fit in well on the Continent at the club level.
“I can play on even terms with the best defenders,” the attacker said after the match. “I demonstrated to myself that I can play in Europe.”
On a night when Rayados missed star Chilean forward Humberto Suazo, De Nigris held his own and scored the late consolation goal for the Mexican club.
The forward was pleased with his performance despite Monterrey being knocked out of the Club World Cup at the semifinal stage.“It’s not the result we were looking for, but we left everything on the field,” De Nigris said.
