Chivas owner Vergara almost comes to blows over argument with fan

The pressure of a poor campaign seems to be getting to the Chivas owner, who nearly attacked a fan following a dispute.

Things continue to heat up for Chivas de Guadalajara, where on Thursday night owner Jorge Vergara nearly came to blows with a fan after the team’s 2-1 reverse at home to Toluca, in the opening match of the two-legged quarterfinal.

The multi-millionaire owner, back from a swing through Los Angeles to promote Chivas USA, was reportedly taken aback by insults emanating from seating not far from the luxury box where the Mexican magnate was stationed to watch the match.

At the completion of the disappointing 2-1 loss, which leaves Chivas’ playoff chances hanging by a thread, Vergara leaped over three sets of railings to confront the fan. According to reports, the team owner was the primary aggressor, and even pushed a woman accompanying the fan in question.

Chivas has had a frustrating campaign under Dutch coach John Van’t Schip, but managed to make the Liguilla in the eighth and final position. Many pundits and fans of the team have suggested that saving the season would require advancing in the Liguilla.
