The schedule and details of the first round of the Liga MX Apertura Liguilla (Mexican league playoffs) were announced Monday afternoon, with home-and-away fixtures to be played on Wednesday-Saturday and Thursday-Sunday schedules to determine semifinalists, after the regular season wound to its conclusion over the weekend.
The Liguilla will kick off Wednesday at 7 p.m., when Cruz Azul hosts Leon in Mexico City. Chivas, which fell into the eighth spot by losing at home to Club Tijuana on Sunday, will face overall tournament leader Toluca at Estadio Omnilife in the late game on Thursday, before a return match Sunday at noon in Toluca.
Club Tijuana and its American contingent of Edgar Castillo, Joe Corona and Greg Garza, visits two-time defending CONCACAF Champions League winner Monterrey in the early game on Thursday, with the visit to Baja California set to wrap up quarter final action on Sunday night.In the other Wednesday-Saturday fixture, Morelia hosts America on Wednesday night, with the return leg set for Saturday afternoon at El Azteca in Mexico City.
