The U-20 World Cup winner left Atlas to take his chances in Europe, but reports indicate he will rejoin the Mexican club.Former Mexican youth international Edson Rivera will return from Portugal to rejoin Atlas for the 2013 Clausura, according to various reports out Thursday.
Rivera was a part of the Mexican Under-20 team that took third at the 2011 World Cup in Colombia. He headed overseas to sign a three year deal with Sporting Braga, but has found playing time hard to come by for the Champions League participant.
Rivera came up through the youth system at Atlas, but controversially left the Guadalajara club to sign abroad rather than turn pro in Mexico, causing a certain degree of displeasure at the club.
The forward would become the second player from that third place U-20 team to return to Mexico in recent months, after attacker Taufic Guarch left Espanyol’s youth system to join Tigres.
