The Mexican midfielder made his presence known in his first game with Mallorca after finally leaving Tottenham at the transfer deadline.
Making his much-anticipated debut with Mallorca, Dos Santos picked up a pair of assists against Sevilla, which decided against signing the Mexican international at the summer's transfer deadline.
Dos Santos assisted goals from Pedro Bigas and Tomer Hemed within a four-minute span in the first half to give his team a one-goal lead early on. But Sevilla would eventually bounce back to hand Mallorca a 3-2 defeat, with the game-winner being scored after Dos Santos departed.
Due to a lingering muscle injury picked up during Mexico’s Olympic run, Dos Santos started for his new club and played 60 minutes before being subbed out for Javier Arizmendi.
After an extended transfer saga as the midfielder looked to exit Tottenham, Dos Santos finally managed to relocate to Mallorca on the last day of August. He had initially hoped to sign for Sevilla, where he thought he was headed.
“I waited for Sevilla for a long time, and at the end, nothing. They were never very clear with me,” Dos Santos told Spanish press ahead of Mallorca’s visit to Sevilla.
“[They said] don’t worry, we’ll arrange it. I waited until the last day of the transfer window. There were offers from other clubs, but I decided to bet on Sevilla. In the end, I ended up on the sideline.”
