Giovani dos Santos will not debut in a dream clash against Valencia and fellow countryman Andres Guardado on Sunday, the team confirmed.
Manager Joaquin Caparros cleared Dos Santos to resume practice on Monday, and the Mexican winger trained on his own for the better part of the week.
Even then, Caparros will hold Dos Santos out on Sunday at the Iberostar Stadium, in order to avoid aggravating his prior injury. Giovani has not played in a competitive match since the Olympic semifinal against Japan, where he came off at halftime due to a muscle injury.
Dos Santos was kept out of the eligible list of players announced on Friday, one that will also not include goalkeeper Ruben Mino, defender Jose Nunes and striker Alvaro Gimenez.
Guardado was included in manager Mauricio Pellegrino's list, even after starting in Valencia's Champions League loss against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
