Carlos Salcido was satisfied with Mexico's win over Costa Rica, if only because the 1-0 score gave El Tri passage into the final Hexagonal round of World Cup qualifying.

"The objective was to go through," Salcido said after the game. "We needed to be in the hexagonal and move on."

However, when asked to review the team's performance, the former Fulham fullback was not too pleased about the outing at Azteca.

"At home, in front of your fans, you want to play better than this. We played better [in Costa Rica] than at home, but you can also proclaim that as a merit of their hard work," he told reporters.

Javier Hernandez's second half goal was the lone tally for El Tri, with the final result giving Jose Manuel de la Torre's men a perfect 4-0-0 run in the current group stage, enough to mathematically qualify.

"Costa Rica played well," Salcido noted. "They tried to take advantage of the spaces we left open, they played to our mistakes. We made several of them and thanks to that they had a few chances," he continued.

Salcido scored in the previous game off a set piece, as Mexico defeated Costa Rica 2-0 on Friday night.
