Mexican defender Hugo Ayala has been sought out by La Liga side Mallorca, according to reports in Spain.
News of the reported interest has reached Ricardo Ferretti, Ayala's manager at UANL Tigres, and the fiery Brazilian was quick to warn Mallorca that Ayala will not be given away.
"If they want to come in here thinking that it's still the time of the Spanish conquest [of Mexico], that's not going to work," said Ferretti in a press conference following Monday's team practice. "They need to leave some gold here and pay well for him."
Ayala, 25, is already a full international player with Mexico, playing in six matches for El Tri since 2009. An undisputed starter for Tigres, Ayala picked up his first trophy in 2011, when the Monterrey team won the Apertura 2011 title.
Following the tournament, Ayala won the Mexican First Division Golden Ball for best center back for that particular season.
"I hope they take him, invest in him and give him a chance to be what he is for us, which is a player that's national team material, and an important part of our team," Ferretti added.
