thumbnail Hello,

The attacking midfielder has been quiet in the group stage, but said he is "not obsessed" with scoring as long as his team wins.

CARDIFF, Wales -- With Mexico firmly on the other side of qualifying, attacking midfielder Marco Fabian dwelled on the three group games that have come and gone with El Tri bagging first place from Group B as a result.

"I feel like we should have been able to score more in these games," Fabian admitted. "We've won tight games but we need to focus on the fact we did win."

Against Switzerland, Mexico struggled in the first half, a fact Fabian did not ignore.

"We were a bit disorganized today, the first few minutes were difficult but we didn't lose our concentration and got better in the second half," he said.

Though pitch conditions seemed to be good, several of Mexico's players slipped and fell on the grass at multiple junctures leading to some scary moments. However, Switzerland was not able to capitalize.

"Those were our mistakes, we slipped a few times and couldn't get to a few balls, that can't happen. The good thing is we didn't allow a goal," the Chivas man noted.

As for Fabian's performance, much was expected going into the tournament from one of Mexico's stars in the Toulon tournament and the CONCACAF qualifiers. So far, he hasn't scored.

"I think I've been coming on stronger as the tournament goes on, it hasn't been like the other games [prior to the Olympics], I haven't had a variety of opportunities to score. I'm at the same level, I have the same attitude and I'm not obsessed with this. I will score," he said.

Asked if Mexico is satisfied with making it to the quarterfinals for the first time since 1996, Fabian was clear on the issue.

"We haven't won anything, our objective is to be on the podium. We have to give our all and think about the semifinals. We're getting closer, no one's mental toughness is waning. We're barely getting to the good part."
