Mexico faces losing Herrera and Aquino to injury against Switzerland

Midfielders Hector Herrera and Javier Aquino are doubtful to suit up for Mexico in its group stage finale against Switzerland.
Mexico's victory against Gabon last Sunday was not without a price. Midfielders Hector Herrera and Javier Aquino suffered injuries and might not be able to participate in the decisive group stage match against Switzerland.

Herrera missed training on Monday after twisting his ankle on a tackle during the Gabon match on Sunday. Aquino originally injured his ankle after the Japan friendly, but his injury has progressively gotten worse, so much so he was not able to train either.

Should he not be able to use either player against Switzerland, Luis Fernando Tena will most likely replace Herrera with Jorge Enriquez, who came on for the Pachuca midfielder in the second half of the match versus Gabon.

Aquino will most likely see UNAM Pumas winger Javier Cortes take his spot in the starting lineup.

With four points after two games, Mexico needs to at least draw to move into the knockout round. A loss against Switzerland could see them out as all four teams still eligible to move on.
