Javier Hernandez racks up 125,000 Twitter followers in one day

The Manchester United star joined the popular social network and immediately gained a horde of followers.

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has opened an official account on Twitter to the delight of thousands of fans who have already given the Mexican national teamer more than 125,000 followers in about 24 hours.

Hernandez made the announcement through his girlfriend, who confirmed that @CH14_ is the former Chivas de Guadalajara forward's handle on the social network.

Later, teammate Rio Ferdinand confirmed the veracity of the account on his own Twitter page, asking followers to welcome the goalscorer and subscribe to his posts.

"Chicharito, AKA Javier Hernandez is now in the Twitterverse people! Welcome my friend!" wrote the veteran defender.

After a few hours of creating his account, Hernandez sent out his first post, a video proclaiming that "this indeed is the official account."
